Sedation

Sedation for Dental Surgery

Fewer than 50 percent of all people in the United States regularly visit a dentist. Unfortunately, delaying essential gum treatment and other dental procedures can only make the situation worse – and more difficult and expensive to fix. While some people are just too busy for multiple dental appointments, most people who avoid the dentist do so out of fear. If you’re concerned about your visit to us for dental surgery or gum disease treatment, you’re not alone.

At our Atlanta office, we offer several options to make you more comfortable and relaxed while undergoing any dental procedures. We’re happy to offer a revolutionary new option known as “Conscious Sedation Dentistry”.

Sedation Options for Dental Surgery

Conscious Sedation Dentistry allows Dr. Schaefer to perform the work you need while keeping you relaxed. While you are comfortable and sedated, Dr. Schaefer is able to accomplish much more during a single session. Gum disease treatments, dental implants and other types of dental surgery can be accomplished.

We offer two dental sedation options for gum surgery.

  • Nitrous Oxide: Often referred to as ‘laughing gas,’ this is a safe mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen that is inhaled through a small nosepiece during a planned procedure. This creates a sense of calm for the patient, while remaining awake. A benefit of this sedation is that as soon as the procedure is over, and the Nitrous Oxide is removed, the patient can return to a normal state.
  • Oral Conscious sedation: The patient is prescribed a small pill before the appointment, which produces a delightful feeling of relaxation and more often than not, minimal memory of the procedure.

When you come in for your initial consultation, our staff will help you determine the right level of sedation for your dental surgery procedure and personal comfort.

If you experience anxiety and fear about visiting the dentist, fear no more! With conscious sedation dentistry, you can remain comfortable and relaxed during your dental surgery.
